Can a Mommy Makeover and BBL Be Performed at the Same Time?
Yes, a Mommy Makeover and BBL can be performed during the same surgical session. Adding BBL to a Mommy Makeover, which may include procedures such as tummy tuck, breast surgery, and liposuction, allows the abdomen, waist, breasts, and buttocks to be planned as a whole in suitable patients. In particular, transferring fat obtained through liposuction of the waist and back to the buttocks may allow the body contour to be shaped in two complementary ways.
When planning this combination, the patient’s general health, the extent of the procedures, the availability of sufficient fat tissue, and postoperative care requirements are all assessed. The aim is to address several anatomical areas within the same surgical plan while maintaining appropriate safety limits for each procedure.
Why Are a Mommy Makeover and BBL Planned Together?
A Mommy Makeover is a combined surgical approach that addresses changes in the abdomen, breasts, and body contour after pregnancy and weight changes. BBL, on the other hand, aims to improve buttock volume and shape by transferring fat obtained through liposuction. These two approaches may complement each other particularly through the liposuction component.
For example, while a tummy tuck corrects excess abdominal skin, liposuction of the waist and back may improve the contour of the torso. Suitable fat tissue removed during liposuction can then be transferred to the buttocks to reshape the transition between the waist and hips. In this way, the abdomen, waist, and buttocks are planned according to overall body proportions rather than as completely separate areas.
How Are Tummy Tuck, Liposuction, and BBL Performed Together?
In this combination, each procedure targets a different anatomical concern. A tummy tuck removes excess skin and, when necessary, repairs separation of the abdominal muscles. Liposuction reduces fat tissue in areas such as the waist and back to improve the contour of the torso. BBL creates changes in volume and shape by transferring an appropriate portion of the harvested fat to the buttocks.
Although these procedures are related, the surgical requirements of each area are assessed separately. In particular, when liposuction is planned together with a tummy tuck, preserving the blood supply to the skin and tissues is important. The areas to be treated with liposuction, the amount of fat that can be removed, and the extent of fat transfer are determined according to this assessment.
Can the Waist and Buttock Proportions Be Shaped Together During the Same Operation?
Yes. When planned together, narrowing the waist and improving the buttock contour may create complementary changes. Reducing fat deposits around the waist and back can make the torso appear more defined, while fat transfer to the buttocks may support the transition at the outer hips and increase buttock volume in suitable patients.
However, the target appearance is not the same for every patient. Pelvic width, rib cage structure, natural waist length, existing buttock volume, and available fat reserves determine the proportions that can realistically be achieved. In some patients, contouring the waist alone may be sufficient, while in others adding volume to the buttocks may create a more balanced contour.
How Is Safety Maintained When Combining a Mommy Makeover with BBL?
Safety in combined surgery depends on assessing the total extent of the procedures together with the patient’s general health. Operating time, the amount of liposuction, blood loss, fluid balance, and existing risk factors for blood clots are considered before surgery. This assessment helps determine which procedures can reasonably be performed during the same session.
BBL also has its own specific safety principles. Fat should be injected only into the subcutaneous fat tissue above the gluteal muscle. Real-time ultrasound supports safe practice by allowing the position of the cannula and the injection plane to be visualised. Combining BBL with other procedures does not change these anatomical safety principles.
How Does Recovery Progress When Both Are Performed at the Same Time?
When a Mommy Makeover and BBL are performed together, recovery begins simultaneously in the abdomen, breasts, liposuction areas, and fat-transfer areas. However, each region may recover at a different pace. Tightness may be felt in the abdomen, swelling and tenderness may occur in areas treated with liposuction, and temporary changes in volume may occur in the buttocks because of the fat transfer.
During the early period, walking, sleeping positions, sitting, and daily movements are planned according to all of the procedures performed. In particular, reducing tension on the abdominal tissues after a tummy tuck and avoiding prolonged direct pressure on the buttocks after BBL need to be managed together. In this way, the recovery needs of different surgical areas can be incorporated into a single postoperative care plan.
How Are Early Walking and Sitting Planned After BBL?
Prolonged immobility is not recommended after BBL. Short and controlled walks during the early recovery period are an important part of supporting circulation and reducing the risk of blood clots. When BBL is combined with a Mommy Makeover, walking posture is adjusted with particular consideration for abdominal tightness after a tummy tuck.
Sitting and sleeping positions are planned to limit prolonged direct pressure on the transferred fat tissue. Appropriate supportive pillows may be used when necessary. The timing of returning to normal sitting or different sleeping positions depends on the extent of the procedures performed and the patient’s healing progress.
In Which Patients May Separate Surgical Sessions Be Considered?
Although a Mommy Makeover and BBL can be performed together, the same surgical scope is not appropriate for every patient. Staged procedures may be considered when a large number of operations are planned, the operating time would become unnecessarily prolonged, or the patient’s health status requires a more limited procedure.
For example, if adding BBL to a plan that already includes an extensive tummy tuck, breast surgery, and large-area liposuction would increase the overall surgical burden too much, a second surgical session may be preferred. This does not mean that the combination cannot be performed in general; it means that the scope of surgery is adjusted according to the individual patient’s circumstances.
How Is the Decision Made to Perform a Mommy Makeover and BBL at the Same Time?
The decision is based on an assessment of the patient’s anatomical needs together with their general health. Excess skin in the abdomen, breast shape, fat distribution around the waist, and existing buttock volume are examined to determine which procedures are necessary. The total surgical scope and recovery plan are then established.
In suitable patients, performing a Mommy Makeover and BBL during the same session allows related areas of the body to be addressed in a coordinated way. However, the fact that they can be combined does not mean that every procedure should be performed on every patient. The important point is to plan the desired body proportions according to the patient’s anatomy, health status, and appropriate surgical safety limits.
